The SICAS PunjabSports Board Punjab got under way at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park Sports Complex, with Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Fazal-ur-Rehman inaugurating the event in the presence of players, parents, coaches and officials.
Organised by the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA), the championship has brought together promising boys and girls from across Punjab, providing them with an opportunity to compete in a professional environment and develop their skills. PLTA Senior Executive Vice President Rashid Malik, Nishtar Park Sports Complex Administrator Usman Taj, SICAS Director Sports Shaheen Butt and Assistant Referee Asim Raza were among those present at the opening ceremony.
Rashid Malik congratulated the participating youngsters and urged them to compete with zeal and passion, expressing hope that they would eventually represent Pakistan on the international stage. He thanked SICAS for sponsoring the championship and appreciated Secretary Sports Punjab Fazal-ur-Rehman for his passion and vision in promoting tennis across the province.
Malik also acknowledged the support of the Sports Board Punjab and its entire team. “If the nurseries of sports are continuously supported and populated, the future of Pakistan sports will be quite bright,” Malik said, stressing the importance of providing young athletes with regular opportunities and quality facilities.
The opening day also produced several convincing results. In the boys U-18 category, M. Arham Fawad defeated M. Hussain 6-0, while Alaay Hussain beat M. Hassan 6-0. Umar Ali overcame Arham Fawad 6-1, Daniyal Abdullah defeated Fahad Mustafa 6-0 and Mustafa Uzair Rana beat M. Bin Ahsan 6-0.
In the girls U-12 category, Eman Shahbaz defeated Shahbano 6-1, Shahreen Umer beat Hafsa Rana 6-0, Zara Aidrus overcame Aimal Tariq 6-1 and Wajeeha Fatima defeated Umm-e-Aiman 6-1
