Olympian Tahir Zaman praises players’ passion and hails Pakistan Navy’s commitment to promoting national game
Mari Energies and Pakistan Navy registered commanding victories in the 4th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) All Pakistan Hockey Tournament 2025, played at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore, on Monday.
In the opening match of the day, Mari Energies overpowered Pakistan Rangers 5–2 in a high-paced encounter. Star forward Ahmed Nadeem stole the spotlight with a dazzling hat-trick, while Waseem and Umer Mustafa added one goal apiece to cement their team’s dominance. For Rangers, M. Ahmer and Sheroz managed to pull back a goal each, but their efforts were not enough to shift the momentum. Waseem was named man of the match for his all-round performance and impactful play.

The second match witnessed a nail-biting finish as Pakistan Navy edged out National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 3–2 in a fiercely contested showdown. Yasir Khan, Abdul Hannan Shahid, and Bashrat Ali were the goal-scorers for Navy, while Sabir and Akash struck for NBP. Yasir Khan earned the man of the match award for his decisive contribution.
Olympian Tahir Zaman, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, lauded the players for their passion and sportsmanship. “The quality of hockey displayed today reflects the revival of our national spirit in this game,” he said. “Mari Energies and Pakistan Navy played with exceptional discipline and strategy. I also want to appreciate Rangers and NBP, they fought bravely and showed that Pakistani hockey still has immense depth.”
He also extended special praise to the hosts. “Pakistan Navy deserves full credit for consistently supporting and organizing top-level hockey events. Their commitment to national sports development is truly commendable.”
