Konstas Heads to India, Virat Kohli May Remember the Name
Australia A squads for the upcoming India tour have officially been announced, and the teenage sensation Sam Konstas has been selected with an eye on the next Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2027.
In what’s shaping up to be a compelling cricketing subplot, Australia’s young opener Sam Konstas famous for a heated on-field clash with Virat Kohli during his impressive debut has been included in the Australia A squad for next month’s tour of India.
The squad, selected by Cricket Australia, will feature two four-day matches in Lucknow (September 16–19 and 23–26), followed by three one-dayers in Kanpur (September 30, October 3 and 5). Serving as the only current Test-capped player, the 19-year-old Konstas will open alongside Nathan McSweeney in a side deliberately molded for future subcontinent tours especially with the 2027 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in mind.
According to chairman of selectors George Bailey, this tour is designed to help emerging talent adapt to challenging Indian conditions while keeping them match-ready for the Sheffield Shield season.
Konstas’s Test career is currently at a crossroads. After his fiery Boxing Day debut that made headlines highlighted by a shoulder bump incident with Kohli, he endured a slump on the recent West Indies tour, scoring just 50 runs across six innings at an average of 8.33.This India A assignment is now a critical audition for regaining his place ahead of the next Ashes series.
The narrative goes beyond cricket. From heated on-field confrontations to now travelling to Indian soil as part of the squad, Konstas’s journey continues to captivate fans across both nations.
