Promising talent unearthed as Hyderabad, Benazirabad trials conclude under PMYP–Lahore Qalandars initiative

Lahore Qalandars and the Prime Minister’s Youth Program wrapped up their two-day talent hunt in Hyderabad with the announcement of 16 boys and 15 girls selected from trials held at Police Headquarters Ground, Cantt.

In Hyderabad, over 7,000 participants stepped up in just 2 days, proving once again that Sindh’s youth carry both the passion and the potential to represent Pakistan on the big stage, showcasing their skills in front of coaches, selectors, and Lahore Qalandars management. After two days of extensive assessments, coaches Marina Iqbal and Riaz Afridi announced the selected players.Following the successful Hyderabad leg, the PMYP-Lahore Qalandars talent hunt trials moved to Shaheed Benazirabad, where an overwhelming number of young cricket enthusiasts turned up to showcase their talent. The energy, dedication, and deep-rooted passion displayed by both boys and girls for cricket and especially for Lahore Qalandars was truly commendable.

After a series of highly competitive and intense trials, the selection panel finalised a 17-member boys’ team and a 15-member girls’ squad, comprising the most promising and skilled players from the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana expressed his satisfaction with the level of talent on display in Hyderabad. “This region has always been rich in raw talent, and we’re proud to provide these boys and girls a pathway into professional cricket,” he said. “Through this collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, we are forming five regional teams from Sindh, and Hyderabad has given us another group of promising youngsters.”

The selected boys and girls expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister’s Youth Program and the Lahore Qalandars management for bringing this opportunity to Hyderabad, and pledged to give their best in the next phase of the program.

The selected squads from Hyderabad and Shaheed Benazirabad will now prepare for the upcoming regional tournaments as part of the broader PMYP–Lahore Qalandars talent development initiative, which aims to identify and groom top cricketing talent from across all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
