CAS INTERNATIONAL SQUASH: NOOR ZAMAN, AMINA WIN TITLES
ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Asim Khan, the second seed, was forced to withdraw from the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) International Squash Championship final against Noor Zaman, the fourth seed, due to an injury. The match concluded on Monday at the Mushaf Squash Complex, lasting eighteen minutes. Asim announced his retirement from the four-glass-wall squash court while trailing 1-0 and 8-2 in the second game.
While Noor Zaman, the player who had upset the tournament’s top seed in the semifinal, played aggressively and took an early 9–5 lead, Mohammad Asim appeared to be on the defensive in the opening game. In order to get three consecutive points and make the scoreboard 8–9, Muhammad Asim modified his game plan.
As the chief guest, Air Marshal Irfan Ahmed, HI (M) graced the final and gave the players their prizes. Noor Zaman, the winner, took home a trophy and US$1805, while Mohammad Asim took home US$1140 in prise money. Given that both Amina-el-Rihany and Nadien are Egyptian, Amina-el-Rihany received US$905 in prise money for winning the women’s event, while Nadien received US$570.
