Sri Lanka and Scotland to battle for last World Cup spot

Only one spot remains up for grabs at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, with Scotland and the Netherlands set to face off in a winner-takes-all clash on Thursday.

Scotland currently hold the advantage in the race for the final spot, but the Netherlands will be hoping to overturn their opponents’ net run rate (NRR) with a victory.

If Scotland bat first, they will need to score at least 250 runs to give themselves a chance of victory. If they do so, the Netherlands will need to chase down the target in around 44.1 overs in order to surpass Scotland’s NRR.

If the Netherlands bat first, they will need to post a total of at least 280 runs in order to guarantee qualification. If they do so, Scotland will need to win by at least 32 runs in order to progress.

The match will be played at the Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, and is scheduled to start at 10:00am local time.
