Pakistan Hockey Federation Receives Financial Boost for Asian Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) received a special fund of Rs25 million on Tuesday for the preparations of the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy in India.

The money was handed over by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) following the directions of the ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC).

PHF Secretary Haider Hussain thanked PSB and IPC Minister Ehsan Mazari for their financial support. “We are thankful to PSB and IPC Minister Ehsan Mazari for giving us a special grant,” he said.

“This will help us in our preparations for the Asian Champions Trophy.”The Asian Champions Trophy will be played in Chennai, India from August 3-12. Pakistan’s participation in the event will depend on the government’s permission.

The last time the Asian Champions Trophy was held was in 2021 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. South Korea defeated Japan in the final on penalties to win their maiden title.

India defeated Pakistan 4-3 in the bronze medal match.India and Pakistan are the most successful teams in the Asian Champions Trophy. India has won the title four times, while Pakistan has won it three times.

The PHF has called 45 players for a training camp in Lahore that started on Tuesday. The team will be selected from these players for the Asian Champions Trophy.

The PHF is confident that with the financial support from PSB and the government’s permission, the Pakistan hockey team will be able to perform well in the Asian Champions Trophy.
