Hassan Ali defends Shadab Khan

After dropping a crucial catch during the fifth T20I against New Zealand in Rawalpindi, Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan received a barrage of criticism. In a show of support for his best friend, Hassan Ali spoke up.

The drop occurred during the final T20I of the series, when Mark Chapman was on 67 runs in the 14th over. Unfortunately, Shadab Khan’s error allowed Chapman to score his maiden T20I century, resulting in a draw of the series at an even 2-2. This disappointment further fuelled criticism towards Shadab, who missed an opportunity for Pakistan to win a series at home.

Despite the backlash, Hassan Ali took to Twitter to defend his friend, referring to him as the “Prince of Pakistan.”

This situation was not unfamiliar to Hassan, who faced similar criticism after dropping a catch during the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021. The dropped catch of Matthew Wade during the semi-final against Australia ultimately resulted in Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.

Mark Chapman proved to be the star performer in the fifth T20I, helping New Zealand chase down a challenging target of 194 runs after early wickets were taken by Shaheen Afridi and Imad Wasim. Alongside Jimmy Neesham, Chapman managed to turn the tables and secure the series for the Kiwis.

Looking ahead, Pakistan will host New Zealand in a five-match ODI series in Rawalpindi and Karachi starting on April 27.
