Babar Azam is a wonderful talent: Mickey Arthur

Pakistan cricket team director, Mickey Arthur, has praised skipper Babar Azam as a “wonderful talent” and said that there is still room for him to improve. Speaking at a press conference, Arthur said he firmly believed Babar would become a legend of the game, and that he would continue to challenge him to get better. Arthur also spoke about his privilege to work with the team, with the goal of winning the World Cup and becoming number one in all formats. He praised the team’s talent and said he had an incredible support staff. He also discussed the department cricket issue and said the PCB wants the private sector to play in Group B first, with the aim of fully restoring department cricket by September.

The director also discussed the importance of fitness for the national team and emphasized that the players needed to be in top shape to compete at the international level.

“We have to be the fittest team in the world. The players have to be fit enough to sustain the rigours of playing cricket at the highest level,” he said.

Arthur also touched upon the issue of team selection and said that he would work with the selection committee to pick the best possible squad for each game.

“We have a good selection committee and I’ll be working with them closely. It’s important to pick the right players for each match and we’ll do our best to ensure that happens,” he added.

Meanwhile, PCB defacto Chairman Najam Sethi reiterated that the board was committed to promoting departmental cricket and said that the new domestic cricket structure would be finalized in the coming days.

“We’re making changes to the structure and we hope to have it finalized soon. Our aim is to promote departmental cricket and we’re working towards that goal,” he said.

He also spoke about the ongoing controversy surrounding the Asia Cup and said that the board was hopeful that the tournament would be held in Pakistan.

“We’ve adopted an opinion that Asia Cup matches will be held in Pakistan. If India agrees to play in Pakistan, we’re happy to go there and play the World Cup,” he said.

Overall, the press conference was a positive one for Pakistan cricket, with the director and chairman both emphasizing their commitment to improving the team and promoting departmental cricket. Fans will no doubt be hoping that these words translate into results on the field in the coming months and years.
