Bangladesh cricket team receives a setback as Tamim Iqbal is ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a back injury, leading to his decision to step down as the ODI captain. Tamim Iqbal’s Asia Cup journey comes to an abrupt end as he fractures his left wrist during Bangladesh’s opening match against Sri Lanka. The injury occurred in only the third ball he faced when he was struck by a delivery from Suranga Lakmal. After receiving immediate attention from the team physio, Tamim had to retire hurt on two not out at the Dubai International Stadium. The left-handed opener is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks.
As Bangladesh’s all-time leading run-scorer and centurion in ODI cricket, Tamim’s absence will be a significant setback for the team’s aspirations in the tournament. At the time of writing, Bangladesh has not yet announced a replacement for him.
