Pakistan football received a significant boost on the global stage as Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) president Syed Mohsen Gilani held a key meeting with Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa during the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver, where the Asian Football Confederation reiterated its full backing for the development of the game in Pakistan.
Sheikh Salman assured continued support, stressing that stability within the PFF remains vital for the growth of football in the country. He also acknowledged the federation’s recent progress, including advancements in infrastructure such as FIFA Arena pitches, increased international participation, and initiatives like women’s football development and community-driven programmes.
The meeting, also attended by PFF vice-president Hafiz Zakaullah and COO Shahid Niaz Khokhar, highlighted Pakistan’s renewed push to rebuild its football structure and presence internationally.
On the sidelines of the Congress, the PFF delegation actively expanded its global outreach through a series of bilateral engagements with multiple football federations. Discussions with the Football Association of Thailand opened doors for potential team visits and training opportunities, reflecting growing international goodwill towards Pakistan football.
Further meetings with the Guyana Football Federation, Namibia Football Association and Barbados Football Association focused on collaboration in coach education, youth and women’s football development, referee training and futsal programmes.
These engagements underline a broader diplomatic strategy by the PFF to forge meaningful partnerships that can translate into technical growth and competitive opportunities for Pakistani players. With renewed backing from the AFC and strengthening international ties, Pakistan football appears to be moving steadily towards a more stable and progressive future.
