The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) intensified its international engagement ahead of the upcoming FIFA Congress, holding a series of high-level bilateral meetings with leading football nations as part of its broader push to accelerate the development of the sport in Pakistan.
The PFF delegation, led by President Syed Mohsen Gilani, alongside Vice President Hafiz Zakaullah and Chief Operating Officer Shahid Niaz Khokhar, met with senior representatives from Indonesia, Turkey, Australia and Azerbaijan. Notably, all four countries were represented by the heads of their respective football federations, underlining the significance of the engagements.
In discussions with Erick Thohir, President of Football Association of Indonesia, both sides explored avenues for youth development, with a particular emphasis on establishing structured exchange programmes. These initiatives are expected to provide young Pakistani players with access to Indonesia’s extensive grassroots football ecosystem, opening new pathways for talent identification and nurturing.
The meeting with İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu of Turkish Football Federation focused on enhancing technical capacity through coach education and referee development. Recognising Turkey’s well-established football infrastructure, both federations expressed a shared interest in formalising cooperation to strengthen Pakistan’s technical base.
Engagements with Isaac Antler, representing Football Australia, centred on high-performance training models, coaching pathways and youth development frameworks. Australia’s advanced systems were identified as a potential benchmark, with both sides exchanging ideas on innovative and sustainable collaboration.
Meanwhile, talks with Rovshan Najaf of Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan highlighted opportunities in futsal development and bilateral exchange programmes. The discussions reflect the PFF’s growing focus on futsal as a strategic tool to expand participation and strengthen the footballing base across Pakistan.
The series of meetings in Vancouver highlights the PFF leadership’s renewed commitment to proactive football diplomacy. By forging meaningful international partnerships, the federation aims to translate dialogue into tangible development opportunities, ranging from grassroots initiatives to elite performance structures, laying the foundation for a more competitive and sustainable future for Pakistani football.
