The second day of the 5th President of Pakistan Polo Cup 2026 for the National Open Polo Championship – Finale witnessed a high-octane encounter, with BN Polo defeating FG Polo by 8-6. The tournament is sponsored by Sarsabz and co-sponsored by Kingdom Valley.
Lao Abelenda was the standout performer for BN Polo, showcasing exceptional skill to score six goals. He was well-supported by teammates Tito Ruiz Guinazu and Ibrahim Khalil, who contributed one goal each. Despite a spirited effort from FG Polo, where Mekayial Sami scored three goals, Rauli Laplacette two, and Marcos Rivarola one, the team fell just short of the target.
The match opened with aggressive play from BN Polo. Lao Abelenda dominated the early phase, successfully converting three 30-yard penalties. FG Polo stayed in the hunt through Rauli Laplacette, who found the goalposts with a crisp field goal. By the end of the first chukker, BN Polo held a 3-1 lead.
BN Polo extended their lead in a high-scoring second period. Lao Abelenda continued his masterclass, converting a 40-yard penalty followed by another from the 30-yard line. Tito Ruiz Guinazu added a field goal to the tally, and Ibrahim Khalil chipped in with another. FG Polo fought back with field goals from Marcos Rivarola and Ibrahim Khalil (own goal/deflection context), ending the chukker with BN Polo firmly in front.
The pace remained intense in the third chukker. Lao Abelenda secured his sixth goal of the match with another 30-yard penalty conversion. FG Polo began their comeback attempt as Rauli Laplacette scored a field goal and Mekayial Sami converted a 30-yard penalty to reduce the deficit to 8-5.
In the fourth chukker, FG Polo launched a late offensive. Mekayial Sami was the focal point, converting two more 30-yard penalties to bring the score closer. However, BN Polo’s defensive structure held firm in the closing minutes, preventing any further breakthroughs to secure their 8-6 victory.
The prestigious event was attended by Mian Abbas Mukhtar (Director, Fatima Group), officials from Kingdom Valley, Club Secretary Major (R) Adil Sultan Rao, and a large number of polo enthusiasts and families. The match was officiated by umpires Nicanor Bruz Tacchetti and Facu Retamar.
