Amir, Umar, Muaz excel in Punjab Junior Tennis Championship

Promising young players registered commanding victories across multiple age categories in the 4th Chaudhary Nazir Ahmad Memorial Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2026 at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore.

In the boys’ U-18 category, Amir Mazari of Aitchison delivered a confident display as he beat M Husnam 6-1. Muhammad Umar Ali also advanced after a solid 6-3 win over Bilal Awais, while Muhammad Muaz registered a notable victory by beating Hadi Adeel 6-3 in a competitive encounter. In the boys’ U-14 category, Daniyal Afzal Malik cruised past M Turaab Bhatti 6-0, while Hadi Adeel overpowered M Ahsan Bari 6-0. Daniyal Abdullah got walk over against Ayan Khan, while Shahzain Faisal defeated Qublie Sheikh 6-0 and M Ayaan beat Ismail Daha 6-0. In the boys’ U-12 category, Daniyal Afzal Malik beat Ibrahim Khan Laghari 6-3 while Muzamil Khan beat M Turaab Bhatti 6-2.

Tournament organisers confirmed that 35-plus doubles and 55-plus doubles matches will commence today (Saturday), adding further excitement to the championship and bringing seasoned players into the spotlight. Adding prestige to the event, former Pakistan junior tennis stars Khurram Nazir and Omer Babar are also participating in the 35-plus doubles category.

Khurram Nazir, a former Pakistan junior No 1, has represented the country in the Junior Davis Cup and won silver and bronze medals at the Asian U-14 Championships. He was also selected for Pakistan Youth Olympics camp held during the Beijing Olympics 2008. His doubles partner, Omer Babar, is also a former Pakistan junior No 1 and an Asian U-14 Championships silver and bronze medalist, bringing vast experience and quality to the senior category of the tournament.
