ISLAMABAD: After laborious and demanding tennis play at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex in Islamabad, the 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships advanced to the finals.
The 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships’ top seed, Muhammad Shoaib, will compete for the title in the first semifinal after defeating Muzammil Murtaza 6-1 6-0. The second semifinal match will take place tomorrow, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM, and will feature Aqeel Khan and Mudassar
In the Women’s Singles competition, unseeded Karachian Natalia Zaman upset a lot by defeating fourth-seeded Soha Ali in an exciting three-set match, 6-1 4-6 6-4. She advanced to the semifinals where she faced top-seeded Sarah Mahboob Khan, who pliantly defeated Marrukh Sajid 6-0 6-1. Sheeza Sajid defeated Lalarukh Sajid 7-6(5) 6-4, while Amna Ali Qayum defeated Kainat Ali 6-0 6-0.
In the Junior 18&Under division, Hamid Israr Khan and M. Hamza Aasim’s match was the best of the day. Top seed Hamid Israr battled valiantly to defeat Islamabad’s gifted up-and-coming talent M.Hamza Aasim in his match. Both players played very well in the opening set, making both cross-court and down-the-line shots to tie the match at six games apiece. Hamid Israr altered his strategy and easily won the tiebreak 7-1, deciding the set in the end. Both players displayed the high calibre of the game of tennis in the second set, which was marked in the same manner.
