Lahore Qalandars, HED and HRL join hands to expand cricket opportunities for college students
LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars, the Higher Education Department (HED), Government of Punjab, and HRL Group have joined hands as partners to strengthen cricket development across public colleges and create new opportunities for young students to pursue their sporting ambitions.
The collaboration aims to establish a structured pathway for identifying, nurturing, and developing emerging cricket talent within Punjab’s college system. By bringing together HED’s extensive network of educational institutions, Lahore Qalandars’ expertise in talent identification and professional cricket development, and HRL’s role as a strategic partner, the initiative seeks to build a stronger foundation for the future of cricket in Pakistan.
Under the proposed framework, the partnership will focus on organizing cricket trials across public colleges, providing talented students with opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and progress towards further training and development.
The initiative will also encourage greater student participation in sports, promote a culture of healthy competition, and strengthen the role of educational institutions in discovering and nurturing the next generation of cricketers.
Speaking on the occasion, Lahore Qalandars Owner Atif Rana said: “We highly appreciate the Higher Education Department’s commendable efforts in promoting sports and creating opportunities for students across Punjab. Our collaboration with HED and HRL reflects a shared commitment to empowering young people, identifying emerging cricketing talent, and providing aspiring players with a structured pathway to pursue their sporting ambitions alongside their education.
“At Lahore Qalandars, we believe that talent exists across every corner of Pakistan, and it is our responsibility to create opportunities for that talent to flourish. This partnership marks an important step towards strengthening college cricket and contributing to the future of Pakistan cricket,” he added.
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Lahore Qalandars and the relevant stakeholders, expressing hope that the collaboration would lead to grand cricket festivals and sporting activities at colleges and universities across Punjab. He said that cricket trials would help groom young talent, providing them with greater opportunities to showcase their abilities and potentially emerge as the next generation of Pakistan’s cricketing talent.
HRL Group Vice Chairman Jahanzaib Zahid, speaking on the signing of the MoU, said: “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity must reach it. Through this partnership with the Punjab Higher Education Department and Lahore Qalandars, we aim to bridge education and professional sports, creating pathways for young talent to thrive.
“At HRL Group, we believe investing in youth is investing in Pakistan’s future. Our vision is to turn potential into opportunity, opportunity into excellence, and excellence into national pride,” he asserted.
As strategic partners, Lahore Qalandars, HED, and HRL share a common vision of connecting education with sports development and making cricket more accessible to students. The partnership seeks to create an enabling environment in which young athletes can develop their sporting abilities while continuing their academic journeys.
Through this initiative, the three partners aim to strengthen college-level cricket, encourage youth engagement in sports, and establish a sustainable talent development pathway linking educational institutions with professional cricket opportunities. By working together, they aspire to help promising students take their first steps towards higher levels of competition and contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s cricketing future.
The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to youth empowerment, sporting excellence, and grassroots cricket development, with the collective goal of creating lasting opportunities for the next generation of cricketers.
