Lahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association President has welcomed the immediate removal of Dr Tariq Banuri as Higher Education Commission chairman. In a press statement, PUASA President Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry has said that Dr Banuri had adopted anti-higher education policies and made every attempt to derail higher education system in Pakistan. He said that Dr Banuri did not consult relevant stakeholders while devising higher education policies and his removal from service was the right move of the government. He said that PUASA endorsed the stance of FAPUASA which launched a successful movement for his dismissal from his office. He demanded the government appoint any senior, seasoned and eminent academician as Chairman of the commission who could lead the most prestigious institution of the higher education in Pakistan in an appropriate manner while taking relevant stakeholders into confidence.
