TTS Report :
The defending champions have officially put the rest of the league on notice. Under the dazzling lights of a packed Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore Qalandars kickstarted their HBL PSL 11 title defense with a clinical and emphatic 69-run demolition of the tournament’s debutants, the Hyderabad Kingsmen.
Sent in to bat first, the Qalandars’ engine room was firing on all cylinders. Openers Mohammad Naeem and Fakhar Zaman dismantled the Kingsmen’s early nerves with a blistering 84-run stand. Fakhar, in a moment of historic brilliance, became only the second batter in PSL history—joining Babar Azam—to cross the prestigious 3,000-run mark. His 53 off 39 balls, peppered with 10 boundaries, set the foundation for a massive total.
While the Kingsmen clawed back briefly through Hassan Khan and a brilliant run-out of Abdullah Shafique by Hammad Azam, the Qalandars’ depth proved too much. Haseebullah (40* off 28) and a vintage cameo from Sikandar Raza (24 off 10) pushed the score toward the double-century mark. However, the highlight of the innings was skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, who walked in for the final two balls and dispatched both over the ropes for massive sixes, catapulting Lahore to a formidable 199/6.
Chasing 200 was always going to be a tall order for the newcomers, and the Qalandars’ pace battery ensured it remained an impossible dream. Shaheen Afridi and the young Ubaid Shah struck early, removing the dangerous Saim Ayub and Usman Khan within the first four overs.
The Kingsmen’s middle order offered little resistance against the guile of Sikandar Raza and the discipline of Mustafizur Rahman. Raza, in particular, was the architect of the collapse, removing international star Marnus Labuschagne and Kusal Perera in quick succession, leaving Hyderabad reeling at 65-5.
Haris Rauf put the final nails in the coffin, utilizing his trademark pace to clean up the lower order. Despite a solitary resistance from Riley Meredith (19*), the Kingsmen were bundled out for a meager 130 in 20 overs.
The collective bowling effort—led by Haris, Ubaid, and Raza with two wickets apiece—showcased the tactical superiority that has made Lahore the team to beat. As the fireworks lit up the Lahore sky, the message was clear: the champions aren’t ready to give up their crown just yet.
Score Summary:
Lahore Qalandars: 199/6 (20 overs) | Fakhar Zaman 53, Haseebullah 40*; Hassan Khan 2-25.
Hyderabad Kingsmen: 130 all out (20 overs) | Labuschagne 26; Haris Rauf 2-18, Sikandar Raza 2-22.
