Death anniversary of former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf’s father Al-Haaj Ch M Ashraf was held with solemnity on Thursday.
Late Ch Muhammad Ashraf was former Senator (Sindh) as well as renowned industrialist and founder of Ashraf Group of Industries and father of Chaudhry Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, who is Chairman Ashraf Group of Industries, Chairman Pakistan Sugar Mills Association and former President of ZTBL and Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board. The death anniversary was attended by a large number of civil and high officials, politicians, farmers, elected members of national and provincial assemblies, former nazims and locals bodies members, and a large number of people from Sindh and Punjab along with journalists.
The speakers paid tribute to the struggle made by late Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf to introduce revolutionary measures in the field of agriculture and rebuilding of socio-economic conditions in the remote areas. They also acknowledged the services offered by late Ch Muhammad Ashraf in the field of social welfare works. Special prayers were offered on the occasion for eternal rest of the departed soul in the Heavens.
It is worth mentioning that late Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf not only actively participated in business and social activities in Sindh but also worked as an activist of independence movement of Muslims of the sub-continent under the guidance of his uncle Chaudhry Rehmat Khan, a close associate of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Later he got selected as Senator from Sindh during the regime of Shaheed Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He headed many organizations established at Hyderabad for Punjabi Abadkars in Sindh.
He departed from this mortal world in November 1983. His invaluable contribution in social, welfare activities, political field and industrial sector will always be remembered.
