Three matches were decided on the first day of the Inter-District T20 Cricket Tournament as District Malir, District Central and Commissioner XI emerging as winners of the opening day of the event, which is being conducted to mark the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan.
Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon graced the opening ceremony as chief guest at the Eidgah Maidan Nazimabad Karachi. A large number of sports figures and young athletes were present on this occasion, apart from senior civil and military officers. They were present there to mark the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan. The Commissioner Karachi said that the Karachi administration will organize various sports and other competitions in all the districts of the city as part of this festival, to mark the 75th Independence Day with great zeal and fervor.
In the first match played at Landhi Jeem Khan, District Malir Cricket Team defeated District South by 7 wickets. Batting first, District South scored 150 runs with Jasem Shah hitting 52, Umar Mughal 35 and Shayan Yusuf 33 runs. Ahad Ali got 3 wickets for 18 runs. In reply, District Malir chased the target losing 3 wickets with Abdullah Fazl hammering unbeaten 63 and Fayyaz Hussain 39 runs.
In the second match played at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium, District Central Cricket Team defeated District Kemari by 3 wickets. Batting first, District Kemari scored 103 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Qadir Khan scored 24 runs and Kashif Khan 23 while District Central’s Junaid Naeem clinched 3 wickets for 24 and Jamaluddin grabbed 2 for 22 and Nadir Shahid 2 for 13. In reply, District Central achieved the required target at the loss of 3 wickets. Obaidur Rahman scored 42 and Talha Siddiqui 33 runs. Shoaib Khan and Najeeb Khan claimed two wickets each for 14 and 13 runs respectively.
In the third and last match of the opening day was played at Eidgah Maidan Nazimabad, Commissioner Karachi XI Cricket Team defeated District West by 5 wickets. Batting first, Strict West scored 121 runs with Hassan Khan hitting unbeaten 31 and Sami Ayub 30 runs. Shehryar Ghani of Commissioner XI chipped in with 3 wickets for 16 runs. In reply, Commissioner Karachi XI achieved the required target for the loss of 5 wickets. Parvez Ali batted strongly and smashed 53 whiel Farid Arbab struck 32 and Ali Raza 30 runs. Fawad Khan and Samir Arbab bagged two wickets each.
