English fast bowler Stuart Broad revealed his decision to retire from international cricket following the conclusion of the fifth Ashes Test. The announcement came during a post-match interview on day three. Having recently achieved 600 Test wickets, Broad also secured the third-highest number of wickets in Ashes history, standing behind only Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. The 37-year-old made his international debut in a T20 match against Pakistan on August 28, 2006, and has been a crucial member of the English team since his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2007. Broad expressed his appreciation for the privilege of representing Nottinghamshire and England throughout his career, adding that he loves cricket as much as ever. He described the ongoing series as wonderful and entertaining.
The decision to retire has been on Broad’s mind for some time, and he shared the news with his teammates in the dressing room. Focusing on the last Ashes Test, Broad is determined to give his best to ensure his team’s success. Throughout his legendary Test career, Broad played 167 matches, taking 600 wickets, with a career-best of 8-15 against Australia in 2015. Not just a skilled bowler, he also contributed 3,656 runs with a top score of 169 against Pakistan in 2010.
In addition to his Test career, Broad represented England in 121 ODIs and 56 T20Is, claiming 243 wickets. His best ODI performance was 5-23 against South Africa in 2008.
