Acknowledging the vital role played by the Margalla Trail Runners community and fellow athletes. “A special thanks to the Margalla Trail Runners family, the Margalla community, and all fellow runners for their incredible encouragement, true sportsmanship, and all-out support throughout this journey,” he added.
Waqar Ahmad once again brought international recognition to Pakistan after clinching first position in the highly demanding Seychelles Nature Trail Challenge held on Mahé Island. Competing against more than 150 elite runners from 14 countries, the Pakistani athlete completed the grueling 22-kilometer race in an impressive time of 2 hours and 11 minutes to retain his championship title in style.
South Africa’s Daniel Claasen secured second place, finishing just two minutes behind the Pakistani runner, while several top international competitors struggled to match Waqar’s pace across the punishing terrain. In the women’s category, South Africa’s Emily Jock claimed first position with a finishing time of 2h, 51m, while Sylvaine Cussot of Réunion Island secured second place.
Representing Islamabad-based Margalla Trail Runners, Waqar’s back-to-back international victories reflect the growing strength of Pakistan’s emerging trail-running culture. The Margalla Hills community has increasingly produced endurance athletes capable of competing at the highest international level despite limited mainstream recognition and resources.
