Usama Mir’s six-wicket-haul helped Multan Sultans thrash Lahore Qalandars, who ended the Lahore leg of HBL PSL 9 without a single victory here at the crowded Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Tuesday.
Lahore Qalandars initiated the innings well though and scored 51 runs for the first wicket stand but one wicket after one other was bundled on 154 in 17 overs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan scored 31, Rassie van der Dussen struck 30 and Fakhar Zaman 23 runs. Usama Mir emerged as the hero of the match by grabbing six wickets for 40 runs while Faisal Akram bagged two wickets for 25 and Khushdil Shah and Aftab Ibrahim got one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Usman Khan played amazingly, scoring 96 runs for Multan Sultans against Lahore Qalandars. This helped Sultans reach a high score of 214/4. The match had many fans watching, and it began with the Sultans losing their captain, Mohammad Rizwan, for zero runs in the first over bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi.
But the Sultans didn’t lose hope. Reeza Hendricks and Usman Khan built a good partnership. Hendricks scored 40 runs from 27 balls before getting caught. Usman Khan was the star, hitting 96 runs from 55 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Tayyab Tahir added 21 runs, and Iftikhar Ahmed scored a quick 40 not out.
Lahore Qalandars’ bowlers struggled to stop Sultans’ batsmen on a good batting pitch. Shaheen Shah Afridi took 2 wickets but gave away 39 runs. Carlos Brathwaite and Sikandar Raza got 1 wicket each but gave away 36 and 20 runs respectively.
