Lahore : University of Lahore (UoL) clinched the HEC Inter-varsity 7s Rugby Tournament trophy after thrashing Punjab University by 24-0 in the final played here at the Pakistan Rugby Academy Outside Lahore Airport on Thursday.
According to Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) General Secretary Khurram Khawaja, Director University of Central Punjab (UCP) Arshad Sattar graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed trophies among the winning team and top performers. PRU head coach Shakeel Ahmad Malik, Rugby Services Manager Syed Moazzam Ali Shah and a good number of rugby players were also present on the occasion.
Total eight teams from across the country took part in the tournament and after a tough fight, University of Lahore and Punjab University booked berths in the final, where UoL played powerful rugby and didn’t allow the PU players to score even a single point and won the final by 24-0. Earlier in the first semifinal, PU defeated UCP by 17-10 while UoL outclassed Islamic University Bahawalpur by 52-0. In the third/fourth position match, UCP outpaced Islamic University Bahawalpur by 34-0 to claim the third position.
